Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 worldwide, pest control companies are dealing with a massive increase in calls daily. Pest controllers worldwide, from London to New York and Florida, are fielding calls at all hours of the day and night, with 24-hour teams ready and willing to handle whatever comes their way. Since the pandemic began, the demand for professional pest control has risen drastically.

During the coronavirus lockdown, many businesses that are not deemed essential by the government. Many companies have been shut down to prevent the spread of the virus. But shut or not, businesses get pests, and pest control doesn’t stop being needed because of a pandemic.

No matter what the situation, home, or businesses will attract pests. Pest control measures need to be carried out regularly to stop infestations from happening. During the pandemic, pest problems worsened, leading to some species, like rats, breeding and multiplying at an accelerated rate. People have reported feeling harassed by rats during periods of lockdown.

Increase in Pest Numbers

Pests have been able to multiply due to fewer people on the streets and more freedom to roam undisturbed in empty buildings. This has led to pest technicians getting a lot more callouts than usual. One example of rising pest numbers is the serious influx in rats that London has been experiencing. The limited access to homes for pest controllers has led to rodent numbers increasing exponentially. Businesses have also been negatively impacted during the shutdown, as regular pest control contracts could not always result in completion, leading to more pests being able to multiply.

Glen from Diamond Pest Control tells us that, for his London firm, another issue surrounding the lockdown was the reluctance people have had about technicians coming into their homes. With a lack of pest control and treatments, pests were breeding in and around people’s homes, leading to the problems we are facing now.

Homeowners are now feeling more comfortable calling on pest services, leading to more call outs for neglected problems. These situations have been accumulating and getting worse as pests have been left to their own devices for too long.

Many business owners who have finally been able to reopen their doors to the public discover they have a significant pest infestation on their hands. This has resulted in a significant rise in calls to pest controllers, as businesses want to open up and start operating as quickly as possible. Obviously, a firm cannot reopen if they have an active pest infestation, especially if they work in the food industry.

Pest controllers are facing their busiest period for a long time right now. This is what was predicted at the beginning of the lockdown when pest control experts warned of potential consequences. This recent influx of pest problems has left pest companies overwhelmed with inquiries and a big job of containing the world’s pests that have run rampant for months. All sorts of premises are being affected. Even London’s museums are battling pests that have been attracted by the accumulated dust.
